for boehner, he wants a deal. i do want to comment a second on the interview you had with paul ryan. ryan might not think that there is a mandate, but the president does, congressional democrats do, and the public does, if you look at polling. and there's zero chance that the president is going to compromise on this, which is why i think there's a decent chance all the tax cuts go away at the end of the year. the president put down a marker yesterday saying $1.6 trillion in total revenue that he wants to raise. i don't think that's the real number. i think that's a negotiated number. but you know the floor is $800 billion because that's what he had last year when he had a much weaker hand. so the number falls in between 800 and $1.6 trillion. you can't get to that number by just closing loopholes. there's no way congress is going to get rid of the charitable tax deduction. there's no way that we're going to change the dynamics in the housing market when the housing market is starting to recover by getting rid of t

as we speak, the president is meeting with john boehner, the first face-to-face talk. in december 2010, you called your plan the moment of truth. almost two years later, but moment are we at now? >> i think this is the magic moment. a moment when our generation has the chance to really do something about this problem that we created. it is our generation that got us into this mess. i think we have a good chance. yet a second term democrats president who has come out and said he is willing to put entitlements on the table. big deal. you have a speaker, a republican speaker who really gets it. he understands the deaths of the problems they face. he has said the are going to put revenues on the table. big move. we got half the members of the senate already saying they will support a balanced plan. which makes a lot of sense. we have the business community lined up firmly for doing something. most importantly, we have the fiscal cliff. where if we go over it, we are going to face the most predictable economic crisis in history. for all of us in here, it is also the most av

speaker boehner has said he's open to raising revenue. he has not told us or the american public exactly how he would do it. so i do think it would be useful if he would spell it out, then we would have two clear proposals on the table to compare. >> well, it's going to be a long negotiation, it seems, tough negotiation to work things through. but i know a lot of people are hopeful that a deal comes through before the amendment of the year, sir. >> yes, indeed. again, the model, the framework should be the kind of framework that bipartisan groups have come up with in the past in terms of a mix of cuts and again, we did a trillion dollars in cuts last year, but also revenue. that's the kind of balanced approach we need to take. >> allallall right. thank you for joining us. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> friday former c.i.a. director david petraeus testified hyped closed doors on capitol hill. for some his testimony about the september 11 benghazi attack raises more questions than it answers. we'll ask two congressmen about that in a fa
